I wonder if some folks *assume* that with the demise of CQ magazine, that their namesake contests are gone too? Anyway not much Es to hear, but for a few 30 second openings to here and there, not long enough for a QSO. The highlight for me was working AL1VE down in DN02. Popped in and out of the shack Sunday totaling about 2 hours of chair time. 6m never opened at the times I broke free to the shack. So worked hard at making Qs with multi path fading signals! Antenna is still just a 3 element Cushcraft at about 18' above ground, propped up behind the shed about 120' from the shack. That was not the case. Despite that, there was enough Sporadic-E to make some QSOs, but all digital, due to the lack of conditions. I sent DM70, it should have been DM79. 1.7 mile hike to Lat: 39.388639 Lon: -105.097313, approximately 500 feet in elevation gain. Icom IC-705 with a 6m dipole up in the trees and a Microsoft Surface Go 2. All battery powered, beautiful day | W3DHJ/R | Rover | The. Worst. 6M. CONDX. EVER! I kept checking for a pin in my 6M coax! 2M was only a little less grim. Hellacious thunderstorms only added to the joy. DXCC 1 WAS 3 VUCC 4 | W4ETA/R | Rover | Not a bad time. Just wish more folks would pick up the mic instead of only doing FT8 | W5TRL | Single Op 6M | LOTS of deep QSB resulting in 'one and done' sequences.... 75% of QSOs attempted were Incomplete or broken due to missing sequences. Experience in the June VHF contest shows this is where FT4 is superior. Zero stations heard though on FT4 in the July CQ VHF contest though. There were very few stations on CW/and SSB. In addition, the time overlap with the NAQP RTTY contest was a major distractor for this event. There was a brief E-skip spot opening Saturday afternoon to GA and FL, rest of my contacts were tropo on 2M and locals | WB3IGR | Single Op All | I was busy all week end upgrading the height of my tower and only had the last 3 hours to participate | WB4EHG | Single Op All | Very disappointing that the band rarely opened to south FL and then only for short periods to the north/north west and Texas. The guys in the middle of the country have it lucky | WB8WUA | Single Op All | Unfortunately, there was no skip probigation activity on the 6 Meter band - as usual this year. With the exception of the FT8 mode, that band has become another 'band skipped over'. I enjoyed hearing from Jim again, from 'up-north'. I seemed to work all my neighboring grids on both bands and only occasionally saw stations from outside my normal area.
